Book cover revealed: Weft

Madrona Books is pleased to reveal the cover for Weft by Kevin Allardice! The novel’s primary design, featured on its paperback edition, relies on two main themes from the book: weaving and recording. The result is a viewfinder composition reminiscent of a 90s camcorder, stitched onto a woven background. When it came to considerations for the book’s cover, author Kevin Allardice said, “When I think of covers that I love, I think of images that seem like scraps that fell out of the pages of the novel, scraps that you can’t fully understand out of context but compel you to open the covers.” With this in mind, publisher Kevin Breen leaned into those artifactual elements of the novel and arrived at this primary design. “I love the final result,” said Allardice. “It’s both evocative without being overdetermined. I’d certainly pick it off a bookstore shelf.”

The book utilizes an alternate, photocentric design for the hardcover edition. The camcorder distortion running across the suburban McMansion is a gesture toward the protagonist’s con, as well as the off-kilter reality that lies behind the home’s front door.

All formats of Weft—paperback, hardcover, and ebook—are available for pre-ordering on Madrona’s website. Each version of the novel will go on sale simultaneously, on August 1st, 2023.
